How this version looked

This page takes you from nothing to a kingdom of your own.

1. Get the launcher

CastleVille was a Flash game, so it plays in the L.O.S launcher, which has Flash built in. Download it from the launcher page, install it, and sign in with your L.O.S account. The launcher opens on a games hub: pick L.O.S Castle and press Play.

Your L.O.S account is the same one you use on L.O.S Farms and this site, so there's nothing new to sign up for.

2. Your first login

Your kingdom starts the way every CastleVille kingdom did: a small clearing in the woods, 5,000 coins and 10 energy. The game saves by itself every few seconds while you play, so there's no save button. If you close the game, everything up to the last few seconds is kept.

3. The tutorial

The tutorial plays as a series of short quests. Follow the arrows and the quest icons on the left of the screen:

  1. Rescue! The Duke and Yvette are cornered by Gloom Beasties. Click the Beasties to banish them. Each hit costs 1 energy.
  2. Yvette's house. Yvette needs somewhere to live. Place her house and finish building it.
  3. Sticks and Stones. Chop trees for wood and mine rocks for stone. You'll need both for almost everything you build.
  4. Raise the Roof. Use your wood and stone to finish a building.
  5. Level 2 arrives, and with it the chance to name your kingdom.
  6. Penny Pinching. Collect taxes from houses for coins.
  7. Talk to the Animals. Yvette asks you to buy chickens and feed them.

After that the story opens up: new characters arrive as you level up, each with their own quest lines. See Story, Quests & Characters.

4. Find your way around

  • Top left: your coins, crowns and reputation. The + Add Coins & Crowns button opens the Royal Treasury, when staff have it open (see the FAQ).
  • Top right: energy, your Castle Level and your player level with XP.
  • Bottom right: the market (the cornucopia), moving and removing things, and your character.
  • Bottom: your neighbors. Click one to visit their kingdom.
  • Tabs above the game: Free Gifts, Add Neighbors, My Neighbors and Coins & Crowns.

5. Next steps

  • Read Energy, Coins & Crowns so you never run out of energy at the wrong moment.
  • Build a Workshop at level 2. It's the first crafting building and makes the materials many quests ask for. See Crafting & Skills.
  • Visit your neighbors every day. Helping them earns you reputation and sometimes energy. See Neighbors, Gifts & Help.
